MUSIC REVIEW: Title Fight, “Hyperview”

Pennsylvania’s Title Fight is commonly classified as a punk band, but they have always been more dynamic and dimensional than that. They have graduated from the Pixies school of musical dynamics and melody, and their new album “Hyperview” cements their status as one of 2015’s most important bands.

There is some major Pixies and Morrissey/The Smiths worship going on with this album. And yes…that is a good thing. Close your eyes and listen to “Mrahc” and instantly get reminded of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind”. The whole album is reminiscent of 1980’s/1990’s new wave and alternative music, but with an original spin. If you are looking for an aggressive sound such as on their previous albums, Hyperview has its moments, but is mostly stuck in a mid-tempo maelstrom of ethereal imagery. If you are into that whole “shoegaze” introspective effects-laden sound, then this is highly recommended.
